The Church of San Giorgio dates back to 569 AD and was built by order of Archbishop Agnello. It was created with a single-room structure and a floor decorated with mosaic. In the course of its history it underwent several changes, mainly due to the state of neglect in which it found itself several times. In 1122, Bishop Gualterio had the two naves and wall decorations added and commissioned Giovanni da Modigliana to construct the marble portal. The demolition of the two naves that restored the building to the one room we see today probably dates back to the end of 1500.
