As part of Monasteri Aperti 2026, a guided tour of the Church and Rectory of San Geminiano in the area of Pompeano Castle, situated atop a massive ophiolitic cliff composed of serpentine rock.
The medieval fortress of Pompeano can be reached by climbing a short ramp that winds its way up the rock from the village below. Within the fortified perimeter, accessed through a pointed-arch gateway, stands the feudal manor house, whose reception hall is decorated with volutes and the coats of arms of the Cesis family of Gombola and the Cesis family of Rome. The building faces the Church of San Geminiano al Sasso.
At the end of the tour, you can take part in a dinner organised at a farm stay near the village of Castello, featuring typical local produce.
